Duval County

Duval County Information

With a population of more than 900,000 residents, Duval County is the county seat of Jacksonville, Florida. It was first established in 1922 and the county was named for Governor William Pope Duval. He was the governor from 1822 to 1834.

When the county was first created, it covered a much larger amount of land. It stretched from the Suwanee River on the west all the way to the Atlantic Ocean on the east. The northern line was found at the mouth of the Suwannee River.

Many other counties were formed out of Duval County including Nassau County, Alachua County, Clay County and parts of St. Johns County.

The county includes five communities, which are:

  • Jacksonville
  • Jacksonville Beach
  • Atlantic Beach
  • Neptune Beach
  • Baldwin

Jacksonville makes up the bulk of the population and the three beach communities are often lumped together and called “The Beaches”.

Whether your rental property is found in Downtown Jacksonville or out near the ocean, our Duval County property management service has you covered!
